Management Team
• Matt Miller, MII’s CEO, most recently served as President
and CEO of NxtWave Communications, a leading supplier of
semiconductor chips for emerging digital television markets
worldwide. At NxtWave, he successfully raised 3 rounds of
funding and oversaw the merger of NxtWave with ATI
Communications, a large publicly-traded graphics chips supplier. Previously, he served as VP of Technology at both Viacom and
General Instrument, where he reported directly to Donald
Rumsfeld during the company’s critical privatization and
turn-around period.
Dr. Miller began his career doing research on semiconductor
devices at RCA Laboratories (now Sarnoff Laboratories).
Following RCA, he held a variety of technical and operational
responsibilities at Perkin-Elmer Corp., where his research
included space-based infrared sensors and systems, balloon-borne
high resolution infrared spectroscopy instruments, and
fundamental work on critical components including tunable lead
salt infrared lasers and a variety of infrared detectors. He
received his BA in physics, magna cum laude, from Harvard
College and his Ph.D. in solid state physics from Princeton
University.
• Dr. Scott R. Hunter, MII's CTO, has over 25 years of
experience leading, managing, and performing basic and applied
research and development projects in academic, government, and
large and small business environments. He is an expert in
infrared imaging systems, having worked on MII's fundamental
technology while at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; he also was a
founder and VP of R&D at Sarcon Microsystems, where the first
functional prototype of this technology was demonstrated.
Before founding Sarcon, he was Director of R&D at Consultec
Scientific in Knoxville, Tennessee, where his work included
developing innovative infrared and chemical microsystem sensors. Before joining Consultec, he spent two years with GTE-Sylvania
and ten years as a senior staff member at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory. He received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. in physics from
Flinders University, South Australia. He has authored over 70
open literature publications and book chapters, and holds 12
patents.
• Dr. Gregory S. Maurer, MII’s VP of Engineering is an
accomplished scientific management executive with experience in
both large and small companies, including Foxboro, Litton,
Raychem, Optimight Communications, and Lightica. He has
extensive experience in optical sensing and optical
communications, both as an individual technical contributor and
as an engineering manager. He has been a founder or early
executive hire in several early stage companies.
Dr. Maurer received his B.A. in Physics and Mathematics from
Oberlin College and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the Catholic
University of America. He has co-authored over 40 publications
and presentations, and holds four patents.
