Multispectral Imaging Improves Performance of Microcantilever Arrays
- September, 2007
Infrared Imaging News, June, 2007,
Multispectral
Imaging, Inc., MII,
Parsippany, New Jersey, reported on progress in developing
bi-material microcantilever arrays whose capacitance changes due to
heating by absorbed infrared radiation.
September, 2007,
Issue, The company recently achieved thermal sensitivities of
150 mK in its laboratory prototypes and expects to provide
evaluation samples to a few customers later this fall. Later this
year, the company expects to obtain manu-facturing prototypes with
performance in the 50 mK range.
A licensee of ORNL technology receives a
venture capital investment
ORNL Review,
Volume 39, #3 - 2006, Battelle Ventures has already placed a bet on
ORNL technology. The $150 million venture capital fund launched in
2003 by Battelle Memorial Institute of Columbus, Ohio, has invested
in ORNL licensee Multispectral Imaging, Inc., of Parsippany, N.J.
MII's mission is to build high-sensitivity, low-cost infrared camera
detectors that enable soldiers and firefighters to "see" objects at
night or in smoky areas.

Innovation Valley Partners join
financing of MII, an Infrared-Imaging Company
Oak Ridge Observer,
January 19, 2006, "The company is working to solve the cost problem
that makes the wide applicability of
night vision and thermal-imaging products impractical, if not
impossible. Unlike its competitors, MII plans to use only
semiconductor-industry standard materials and processes, which
should significantly reduce costs."
Partnership of IVP, MII
Far-Reaching
The Oak Ridger,
January 3, 2006, MII is commercializing technology for a low-cost,
high-performance infrared detector, the critical component of
night-vision and thermal-imaging systems," explains IVP/Battelle
Ventures general partner Kef Kasdin, who has joined the Board of
Directors of the company, headquartered in Parsippany, N.J.
Spying Profits in Infrared
Thermal Imaging
NJBiz, January 2, 2006, CEO Matt
Miller says Multispectral’s imagers will now use “different thermal
detection techniques that
are cheaper and fundamentally more sensitive” than the technology
that’s in use today. Since making its shift, Multispectral has
been developing technology licensed from Oak Ridge National
Laboratory in Tennessee, a science and energy lab run by the U.S.
Department of Energy. The company intends to sell its
technology to makers of thermal imaging cameras, or TICs, says
Miller, who holds a doctorate in physics from Princeton University.
Multispectral plans to build prototype sensors by the end of the
year.
MultispectraI Imaging Gets $4.7M
Series B To Back Infrared Detectors
DowJones Venture Wire Alert,
December 6, 2005 – Multispectral Imaging Inc. raised a $4.65 million
Series B round to continue development of an infrared detector used
in night-vision and thermal-imaging cameras. Unlike providers
such as Flir Systems Inc., BAE Systems, DRS Technologies Inc. and
L-3 Communications that fabricate their own detectors for military
applications, Multispectral
Imaging will be a fabless manufacturer, bringing down the detector's
cost in order to illuminate the commercial market.
VCs Back Infrared Startup
Red Herring,
December 6, 2005 – Multispectral Imaging could make infrared sensors
much less expensive thanks to technology from Oak Ridge National
Laboratory. Multispectral Imaging closed a $4.65-million financing
round Tuesday to pursue prototype production of its inexpensive
infrared detectors.
Infrared Tech Startup Lands 4.7M
The Deal.com,
December 6, 2005 – Multispectral Imaging, Inc., is expected to
announce Tuesday, Dec. 6, that it has
secured a $4.65 million Series B round of funding led by New
York-based Spencer Trask Ventures Inc.

produce prototypes for customer evaluation and support pilot
production.
Microcantilever Technology Springs Back to
Life
Infrared Imaging News, July 1, 2005
– Almost two years after the investors in Sarcon
Microsystems pulled the plug, uncooled microcantilever technology is
again attracting attention. Multispectral Imaging Inc. (MII),
Newark, New Jersey, has just negotiated an exclusive worldwide
license with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for its patents
involving the use of microcantilever sensors for infrared imaging.
